Congratulations…
1. Congratulations to Craig and Laura Sutherland on the recent birth of their third lovely baby daughter, Giulia. They live in Strontian and this is first new baby in the village for two years, so it caused great excitement. It is the seventh grand-daughter for Dr Nimo and Rosamaria Berardelli.

2.
Congratulations also to Donald and Sarah Cameron, Achnacarry,  whose three months old baby daughter, Rose, was baptised on August 17th.

We wish God’s blessings on both these two beautiful children. May the angels protect them.

Anniversary
We remember
John Hawke in our prayers this weekend whose 14th anniversary is on Friday. Mass will be said for the repose of his soul on that day. John, a professional sound engineer, and was so generous giving his time and technical knowledge free to help in any way he could when his services were required.  Also Mrs  Carmichael, Oban, for whom Mass was said last Friday on her anniversary.
May their goods souls rest in peace.

Laurence Young R.I.P.
We offer our sincere sympathy to Doreen Young  at the sudden death of her husband, Laurence, last Sunday morning, and also to his daughters, Laura and Fiona, at the loss of such a devoted father and grandfather. We pray that God may comfort and console them in their sad loss. Laurence was a great supporter of our Burns Suppers, and took it in turn to address the haggis, which he always did with such great enthusiasm.
We keep Laurence’s family very much in our prayers, and may God grant him eternal rest.

First Communion Classes

We hope to start the First Communion classes next week, and we will let the parents know in good time.

Our catechists usually take the children after school on Mondays as it seems the most convenient time for everyone. We will provide the children with nice coloured books which they can use for their communion class homework.

Clergy Meetings in Oban this week

The clergy have their annual meetings in Oban from Tuesday to Thursday, during which a presentation will be made from the priests to Bishop Joseph. It will be nice to have him back in Oban even for a short time. I hope to attend the Wednesday afternoon meeting and the presentation, but I will forego the other days.

Special prayer at Mass each Sunday for the appointment of a new bishop

Before Bishop Joseph left to take up his appointment to Motherwell, he asked that we say a special prayer to the Holy Spirit each Sunday for the appointment of his successor. It can take anything up to a year before a new bishop is chosen for a diocese, but we hope (and pray) that it be much sooner than later. In the meantime, we keep Mgr MacNeil in our prayers who has been appointed temporary Administrator of the diocese.

Permanent Deaconate

The introduction of the permanent deaconate has brought many blessings to the Church which is now facing the shortage of priests, and also many of its priests reaching an advanced age.  This was made very obvious to me this weekend when Deacon Thomas assisted me at the Requiems Mass for Sandy MacKintosh by reading the Gospel, administering Holy Communion, giving the absolution at the coffin and conducting  the committal service  at Cille Choirill. I was still suffering from the prolonged effects of a tummy bug, and I certainly welcomed his assistance. Should one of our priests be appointed bishop of the diocese, it willl mean that we are another priest short! At the moment, Fr Tony Wood is also serving Moidart as well as his own parish at Arisaig.

Please try and find a place in your prayers at communion to ask our Lord for an increase of vocations to the  priesthood, especially for our diocese. Our Lord himself told us: The harvest is great, but the labourers are few.
