He used the iron pectoral cross of his days as bishop rather than the traditional ornate cross, and gave up the red cape that Popes wear when they are presented to the world for the first time, choosing instead the simple white cassock of the papacy. And in his first Mass as pope, Francis showed how different he would be as a pastor, giving an off-the-cuff homily to the Cardinals about moving Catholic Church forward. Speaking in Italian, Francis did not use a script and kept the sermon short, calling on the cardinals to have courage. God bless our new Holy Father, Pope Francis
