Actually, he had two call-outs on the evening of the holy hour
when the bishop and clergy concelebrated the deanery mass, but
as he was with the choir, the ringing tone was not heard in the
congregation!
However, I have persuaded Dominic that the chances of his
phone going off while he is reading are minimal—and should it
do, it will be quite spectacular! So he has agreed this Easter
Sunday to start reading at mass again —so be on the alert!
As well as his commitment to the community, Dominic
faithfully tidies the altar after mass each mass on Sundays and
on Wednesday evenings, and always makes himself available to
help me during the Holy Week Services, which I greatly
appreciate. However, this year he will be on holiday, and I was
quite unsure whom to ask, when I thought of my own nephew,
Thomas, who is studying for the permanent deaconate to serve
as a deacon in the diocese. He has very kindly agreed to come
and fill in for Dominic during the three days of Holy Week, and
I am particularly grateful to him.
Fortunately, his trade as a butcher does not require him to carry
a mobile phone for urgent calls!
