The total gifted to our parish from April 6, 2008 to April 6, 2009 by those who have generously signed a Gift Aid form came to £13,517.85.
Up until this year, the Church could claim back the tax paid on this sum, which would come to approx. £3,800 - that is 28 pence for every £1
contributed (as the illustration above shows) However, this year, the Chancellor has decided to decrease the amount of tax than can be
reclaimed, but will also add an extra contribution according the amount gifted aided. We are not sure yet how the final total of tax reclaimed will
work out this year, but it should not be too far away from previous years.
I would like to thank Margaret MacDonald, Blarmona, for all her hard work preparing the Gift Aid Schedule for the Inland Revenue. This has
to be done with greatest care, giving a detailed total of each person’s contribution during the year.
As always, Margaret’s work is readily accepted by the Inland Revenue for its accuracy.
My thanks also to Helen MacDonald who keeps the parish finances up to date each week, and notes all the weekly contributions for Gift Aid in
a special register and banks the money. It is tedious work, especially with all the special collections, but Helen never complains, and I am very
much indebted to her.
To both Margaret and Helen my sincere thanks for all their invaluable help. And to all who contribute regularly and generously each week with
your offering in your envelope, may God bless you for all your goodness and generosity. Should anyone who has signed a Gift Aid form wish
to know for any reason what they have contributed throughout the year, I can give them an exact amount very quickly.
Mass at Cille Choirill next Sunday 3pm
There will be mass next Sunday at Cille Choirill, feast of the Most Holy
Trinity, and I would be grateful if our parishioners would let their
relatives and friends who live at a distance, know about the mass.
Scalan: The old seminary is now owned by the Church, and to mark
the occasion, there will be mass on June 2 at 2 p.m, attended by Cardinal
O’ Brien, our own bishop and members of the hierarchy.
