Annunciation
Wednesday, March 25, is the feast of the Annunciation, and the springtime of our salvation when Mary accepted the invitation from God, brought to her by the Archangel Gabriel, to be the mother of his Son, God become man.
Little did Mary’s parents know the wonders that their daughter would bring to the world, and that she had been specially chosen by God and prepared by him to be the worthy dwelling place for his Son to take on our flesh.
By God’s intervention, Mary was preserved from original sin from the first moment of her conception, for the angel addressed her as…..full of grace.
Try to say the Joyful mysteries of the rosary on Tuesday to honour her feast day.
The Chrism Mass will be celebrated in St. Columba’s Cathedral, Oban, on April 1, at 7 p.m. Mgr MacKinnon usually runs a bus from St. Mary’s. Should anyone wish to attend this mass, please let me know so that your name be be added to the list.
This will be Bishop’s Toal’s first Chrism Mass, and it is always a special occasion in the diocese for the clergy gather for the blessing of the holy oils which will be used throughout the year in the parishes for baptisms, confirmations and the anointing of the sick. The clergy also renew their priestly vows at this mass. The bishop will use the oil of Chrism for confirmations as he goes around the diocese to administer the sacrament. We hope to invite him to our parish in the near future to confirm our own children.
Anniversary– Bishop Colin MacPherson
Bishop MacPherson’s anniversary is on Tuesday, the day before the feast of the Annunciation. He died on March 24, 1990 at the age of 72, nineteen years ago, and he is still remembered with great affection by all the priests of the diocese as he was gentle and kind shepherd of his flock. Mass will be said for the repose of his soul on Wednesday.
Ann MacKintosh R.I.P
I was unable to be present at the Requiem Mass in St. Mary’s for Ann MacKintosh, Corran, but I would like to have a mass in the parish for Ann shortly after Easter, and invite her family and relatives to join us as the MacKintoshes have their roots in Murlaggan. Ann was a great supporter of this parish, and attended all the important occasions. She loved to come to mass on the Sunday afternoons throughout the year when we had mass at Cille Choirill as her parents are buried there. She herself now lies at rest in the cemetery along with her loved ones.
Simon Macmillan—Eochar, South Uist
As the weeks passed, it seemed inevitable that the worst fears of the family for their son would be realised, although they still lived in hope. The sad news that his remains were found in Loch Bee will now allow the family to have a funeral mass and lay Simon’s remains to rest. Bishop Toal was parish priest of Eochar for some years, and baptised Simon as a baby. His recent visit to the family brought them great comfort and the assurance of the prayers of so many in the diocese that God might bring them that peace that only he can give. May his young soul rest in peace.
