Bishop Joseph to visit Fr. Colin MacInnes,
our diocesan priest in Ecuador
ince his ordination, Bishop Joseph has shown how close he wishes to be to his
people, and has been visiting parishes in the diocese most weekends since his
ordination. Already, he has covered a large number of  mainland parishes, and
also parishes in the Isles, and everywhere he has been received with great joy and
given a great welcome. He is well-known throughout the diocese because of the
parishes in which he served as parish priest, and also for his kindness and willingness to
supply for priests  in most parts of the diocese when he was home from Spain to allow
them to have a holiday. He will be with us here in Roy Bridge on Saturday, June 27th, to
administer the sacrament of confirmation to twelve of our children, and then he will
return on the weekend of August 9th, the 100th anniversary of Blessed Mary
MacKillop’s death, to make an official visit to the parish. However, not content with his
diocesan parish visits, he is flying out to Ecuador on July 2nd for a fortnight to visit one
of our incredible diocesan priests, Fr. Colin MacInnes, in his parish of Guayaquil, and
will bless the new church which he has built. Of course, Bishop Joseph speaks fluent
Spanish, so he will be quite at home with the people.
Finding time so early in his ministry to visit one of our diocesan priests who has been
twenty five years  a missionary in Ecuador, is typical of our new bishop’s concern and
support for his priests, which
we personally appreciate
greatly.
The clergy have found in
Bishop Joseph a true and
kindly father whom they have
taken very much to heart.
We hope his fortnight in Guayaquil will allow
him some time to rest and relax from the
arduous programme he has set for himself, and
that he will enjoy this new experience.

          !Buen viaje!
