Vocations Sunday
May 3rd, 2009
“They recognised him at the breaking of the bread” - Luke 24:13-36, the inn at Emmaus
Next Sunday is Vocations Sunday, a World Day of Prayer for Vocations to the priesthood and the religious life. Throughout the
world, except in parts of Africa, there is a serious shortage of priests, and so next weekend we are invited by the Church to pray that God’s
call may be heard and accepted by young men  to offer their lives in the service of God and the Church in the priesthood.
God has never ceased calling young men and women to follow him, but so often his voice falls on deaf ears because of the noise and
attraction of the material world. It was Pope Pius X11 who said in the 1940s, “every family should pray that at least one of their children
be called by God to serve him in the priesthood or the religious life.”      >>>>>>>>>
