Easter is one of the most beautiful feasts of the year. Christ is risen, and new life has come into the world again in so many different
ways: there are new-born lambs in our fields, the countryside is covered with daffodils, the trees are coming into leaf, congregations
suddenly increase, and there appears to be greater joy in the world.
Christ’s resurrection has an immense effect on the world, for he has overcome death, with the promise of eternal life to all mankind by
sharing in his victory. The resurrection of Christ is not just a historical fact, it is an ever-continuing presence amongst us. Christ has
made himself present down the centuries, for he continues to live with us and in us. St. Paul reminds us that Christ’s new body is this
great family of the Church! By our baptism, we are all part of the body of Christ, and so he is present wherever we are, especially
through our love, our sacrifices and our service to others: Whatever you do to the least you are doing it to me. Christ is active in the love
that is shown in the home, at work and in recreation.
The saints are the more perfect expression of that living presence as they try to follow Christ so closely and allow themselves to be his
instruments. We have witnessed this in a special way in people such as Mother Teresa of Calcutta and so many others who dedicated
their life to Christ down the ages. We don’t look for Christ among the dead for he risen and goes before us, and is present in all the
genuine love, concern and compassion that is given, and in all the good that is done throughout the world in his name. >>>>>>>>>
