Carlos—some cat!
During the week, I called to see Nilda Hawke who was recovering from a bad cold, and the conversation came round to the cat, Carlos,  which had just come in and sat by the fire. It is a lovely ginger, white cat, who is obviously beginning to feel its age, and when I asked Nilda how old the cat was, I thought I misheard her when she said it was 28 years old!  “Nilda, did you say 28 years old?”,
I asked unbelievingly. “Yes”, she assured me, “28 years old”. I never realised  a cat could live as long as that.
She was given a gift of two kittens from Joy Munro, Askival, one was a weakling, which she took pity on, and the other  was strong and healthy. Her son, John Paul, was just over eleven years old at the time, going to High School, and he is now approaching forty, so she is able to tell accurately the age of the cat.
The strong kitten died three years ago, aged 25, but Carlos is still enjoying life at 28, but at a more sedentary pace.  Sarah, her daughter, has a great affection for Carlos, and the two of them get on very well together. Carlos has been loved and well looked after all these years.  He has a lovely garden where he can roam around, and  a good home, where he can sit and relax before the warmth of an open fire.

Birds and mice are quite safe nowadays as he no longer has the energy to hunt them
It would be interesting to know if any of our readers have had cats, or know of cats,  that have lived to such a ripe old age as Carlos.
If Carlos reaches 30, he will surely be due a telegram from the queen, as this must be at least the equivalent of 100 years  in a human!
