Final farewell Mass for Bishop Ian
The clergy and representatives from parishes in the diocese gathered together in Oban last week to join in a farewell mass for Bishop Ian, It was a very lovely service, with most of the diocesan choir present. We met in the hall afterwards, and a substantial cheque was presented to bishop Ian from all the parishes in his diocese with their kind wishes for a happy and well deserved retirement
The clergy met him later at a private meal in his home and presented him with the latest television set, a microwave oven and pots and pans—very necessary accessories when you are living on your own!
His new home will be the former chapel house of St. Columba’s, Edinburgh, which is quite centrally situated in
the city, so he will be close to his family and many priest friends.
We hope that when he feels like a break he will return to Lochaber and Argyll where he will be received with great warmth and hospitality in every chapel house.
May he have the opportunity now to catch up on all the things he wanted to do when he was our bishop but was unable to find the time because of his many commitments and the amount of travelling he had to do with his involvement helping to provide a new translation for the missal we use at mass.
Ad multos annos (to many happy years)
First Anniversary –Joe Beattie
We remember in our prayers this weekend, Joe Beattie, whose first anniversary is this Sunday, November 16th, feast of St, Margaret. The 11.30 a.m. mass will be said today for the repose of Joe’s soul.
Joe left a gift to the church in his Will, which is sufficient to have our kneelers upholstered. A tradesman from Blairgowrie visited the church during the week and took the necessary measurement. He hopes to have the worked completed before Christmas. I am sure that Joe from his place in heaven will approve of this knowing that our parishioners will have a little extra comfort when they are kneeling at mass.
Joe is still missed so much in the parish, and especially in church and at the chapel house. When he was fit, he took good care of the church grounds, helping in so many different ways. Joe was always around when any help was required, and he took great delight each year in sharing the work of erecting the cribs at St. Margaret’s and St.
Joseph’s. He had his favourite place in the choir, close to the wall, just below the seventh station of the cross, and it was there he assisted regularly at mass and at stations of the cross. It will always be Joe’s place, although now he will have his own special corner seat in heaven. He had a long illness and died a holy death.
May his good soul rest in peace
Elizabeth (Lily) Cameron
Lily Cameron’s anniversary was on Friday, and mass was said for her on Friday morning.
We remember her for her great devotion to the mass and the Eucharist, and her kindness in supporting so many charities.
Lily loved travelling, and she made regular use of her free bus pass and was well known to so many people.
It was unfortunate that she had such a short time in her lovely little house in Spean Bridge.
May her gentle soul rest in peace.
