Future of School looks promising.
From the reports on Radio Highland and Thursday’s Press & Journal, the future of Roy Bridge Primary School now seems certain. According to these, the majority of councillors will vote on Thursday, May 8th, to retain the school. In fact, they already have us rejoicing in Roy Bridge in anticipating the decision, for the headlines read:
“Joy in village as school escapes closure”.
However, Marie Claire Russell, who is the spokesperson of the committee with the media, is more cautious and does not want to jump the gun until the General Council makes its final decision next Thursday. The support in our favour, promised by the councillors at a meeting last week, seems overwhelming , so the future of our school is beginning to look very promising indeed.
Despite the headlines of the Press & Journal, which has constantly given the campaign great coverage, and for which we are indebted to the paper, we will keep the corks in the champagne bottles until after the meeting on Thursday!
In the meantime, we commit the outcome to the intercession of Blessed Mary MacKillop. If the result is as expected, then the village owes the committee a great debt of gratitude, for if we were to lose our school, it would take the heart out of our village.
In many rural areas in England, including Kent, the most recent social report gives great cause for concern about the poverty of these villages for they have lost their school, their post office, their shop, often attached to the post office, their banking facilities, and in some cases, their church. The small number attending the churches is not now sufficient to maintain them..
Mass at Cille Choirill next Sunday at 3 p.m.
Next Sunday is Pentecost Sunday, and it will be nice to celebrate the feast at Cille Choirill in the afternoon.
I will be grateful if parishioners will their relations and friends know about the mass, especially those who live at a distance.
The mass will be said for all who lie at rest in the cemetery. I mentioned some time ago about the possibility of reprinting the book on Cille Choirill in a new format, but I discovered we have still a large number of the present booklet.
