Sunday March 9th.

St. Margaret’s, St. Joseph’s & St. Finnan’s
Weekly Bulletin

Our Sick

Maureen McSherry has made remarkable progress after her knee-joint operation, and came home on  Friday. We wish her a speedy recovery, so that she will be able to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in her usual traditional style!

Tom MacKintosh is walking now, and we pray that his good progress may continue and that it will not be long until he is back in his own home at Spean Bridge.

Six months old Robbie Fraser, Invergarry, went through delicate surgery in Yorkhill Children’s Hospital on Friday. He has been in Raigmore since shortly after he was born because of digestive trouble, and there is great hope that this operation will successfully treat his condition. He is remembered regularly in our prayers.

Chrism Mass in Oban

For those intending to go by bus to the Chrism Mass in Oban, please note that the bus will leave from St. Mary’s at 5.30 p.m.—not 5 p.m. as announced in last week’s Bulletin.

The mass starts at 7 p.m., and afterwards there will be tea and cakes etc. served in the Cathedral Hall behind the Cathedral.

Mass on Wednesday will be at 10 a.m.

Feast Days this week

Monday is the feast of St. John Ogilvie, the Jesuit priest who was martyred at Glasgow Cross  at the time of the reformation for refusing to renounce his faith,. He was offered the hand of the daughter Archbishop of Glasgow in marriage as reward if he changed his mind.

The feast of St. Patrick this year has been changed to Friday, March 14th, as March 17th is the Monday of Holy week.

We wish all our parishioners with Irish connections a very blessed and happy day—and something to wet the shamrock!

St. Joseph’s feast day, March 19th, has been changed to Saturday, March 15th, as it also falls during Holy Week.

Thankfully, it  will be over a hundred years until such an early Easter returns again, and perhaps by that time the Christian churches will have decided to keep Easter on the second or third Sunday of April. It would make a lot of sense, and also be of immense help to those catering for tourists.

VISITING CONFESSOR NEXT SUNDAY

Fr, Roddy Johnstone will hear confessions next Sunday at the following times

 Spean Bridge: 3 - 3.30 p.m.

Roy Bridge 4 –4.45 p.m.

This is an excellent opportunity to prepare for the celebration of Holy week and Easter Sunday

When will our new bishop be announced?

No one knows how long this will take because of the detailed consultations which have to be undertaken.  Three names are finally chosen by the Apostolic Delegate in London, and these are submitted to the Holy Father  to make his personal choice. Some suggest June as a possible time for the announcement, others August.

Although bishop Ian has passed the time for his retiral, he offered to remain as bishop of the diocese until his successor is appointed.

He intends to live to Edinburgh, his former diocese,  to be near his relatives and friends, but we hope he will come back often on holiday to the  diocese where he will  always be warmly welcomed by all the clergy.

A presentation will be made to bishop Ian before he leaves to express the thanks of the whole diocese for his dedication and for all the work he has done on our behalf as our shepherd and spiritual guide during these passed eight years.

We will be inviting bishop Ian back  shortly to Roy Bridge to confirm five of our children.

Stations of the Cross

Sundays: Spean Bridge 5 p.m.

            Roy Bridge 6 p.m.

No mass or Stations of the Cross on Wednesday this week because of Chrism Mass

Holy Water

I hope to have a holy water container delivered this weekend. It will be placed inside the door of the church beside the cupboard, and will make it easier to fill bottles with holy water.
