Good Friday
Solemn commemoration of the
Passion and Death of Our Lord
at 3 p.m.
Through the scriptures, the Church recalls in its liturgy the suffering and death of our Lord. As he hangs from the cross in excruciating pain, he still finds strength to forgive the penitent thief, and in his dying breath to give us his mother to be our mother also. The Church has always interpreted Jesus’ words to his faithful disciple, John: Son, behold your mother. Mother behold your son, as our Lord’s last parting gift to his people of his own mother. Mary. His life’s work reaches its completion: “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit” Jesus bows his head and dies.
We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you, because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.
