Mark and Clare Reynolds have had many disappointments in their short married life . They so longed for a family, but each pregnancy lasted only a short time. With medical help, and surgical intervention, they tried everything ;possible, but without success. Then, wonderfully,  Clare became pregnant again, but this would be her final opportunity to be a mother; with all the prayers and masses said. and candles lit at the statues of the Sacred Heart and Our Lady,  it looked as though the baby would come to full term—then disaster struck. While Clare and Mark were visiting  Nicholas, her brother in Ipswich, things began to go terrible wrong, and life– threatening. Clare had still nine weeks of her pregnancy to complete. She was rushed to Addenbrooke’s Maternity Hospital in Cambridge, 40 miles away, both the baby and herself in a critical condition. She was immediately rushed into the operating theatre on arrival, the baby was delivered  by caesarean section, and she herself had a massive life-saving operation as she had lost four pints of blood on the journey. The baby put up a tremendous fight, and within a few days no longer required oxygen, as its lungs began to work perfectly on their own as nature intended, The doctors and nurses were quite amazed at her progress.

Clare took much longer to make a successful recovery. When everything was safely over, the consultant surgeon told them that another five minutes and neither would have survived!
