We have hardly had time to clear away the Christmas decorations until we are preparing for Lent.
Because of the phases of the moon, it can only happen once in a hundred years that Lent can come so early
Wednesday, February 6th, is Ash Wednesday, and the beginning of Lent. A time of grace and opportunity for us all to make progress in our love of God by detaching ourselves from so many material attractions.

Lent is an old English word meaning springtime. Spring is a new beginning for the world after the cold and austere season of winter. Things begin to come alive again with the end of a long winter sleep: leaves start appearing on the trees; daffodils put on a beautiful show of yellow colours; the birds begin to sing; lambs are born in the fields, and the days get longer ….it’s springtime!
Perhaps, after the long winter, our souls could benefit from a spring clean. We
may have become lethargic over a period—given little time to God and more time to
ourselves. Lent is an opportunity to reflect and take account of our own personal
