Clergy and Canons Meetings in Oban. No mass on Tuesday.
The annual meetings take place in Oban this coming week. The clergy meet on Tuesday, and the Canons on Wednesday morning.
This will probably be our final meeting with Bishop Murray as his successor is expected to be appointed some time in October.
It will be an emotional occasion for us all, as he has been a very kindly and compassionate father to all his priests.
We all appreciate what he has done for the diocese, and whoever succeeds him as bishop will find the diocese in excellent order. He leaves the diocese financially better off than ever it has been because of his excellent choice of treasurer, Roy Maxwell, who formerly held and executive post in the Bank of Scotland.
Nearer the time of Bishop Ian’s retirement, the clergy will present him with a gift, and it is proposed that a collection be taken up in all the parishes to present a gift to the Bishop from the people of the diocese.
Bishop Ian was consecrated bishop of the diocese on December 7, 1999.
When his retirement is announced, he will have completed almost 9 years as our bishop.
